MENDON DEMOCRATS...
September 2009
Dear Friends:
Welcome to the Mendon Democratic Committee website. As Mendon Democrats, we are proud to say that we put the well being of Mendon above all else. We use the name Mendon’s Future to emphasize this point. We have enjoyed nearly six years of outstanding town leadership under Supervisor Ian McNabb and his predecessor Moe Bickweat. Ian McNabb, Mark Cottle and Shari Stottler ran for town leadership in 2007, and in a historic election all three candidates swept every district, a first in Mendon.
Under the leadership of Supervisor McNabb, and Board Members Cottle and Stottler, our community is experiencing a new sense of vitality. They have clearly demonstrated that town government can be inclusive, can be run without rancor and belligerence, and that progress can be made in a short period of time. From the library project to athletic fields to the solicitation of grants, and much more, they have delivered on their 2007 platform.
This year offers another great opportunity for Mendon residents to elect an equally capable group of individuals, candidates with a proven record of active dedication to this community. Mendon Democrats have endorsed the following slate for 2009:
- Re-elect Ian McNabb Town Supervisor
- Moe Bickweat for Town Board
- Tom Dooley for Town Board
- Doug Jones for Town Justice
We need your support for this great slate of candidates.
How can you participate? Get on our email list, come to a committee meeting, join us for one of our social events, contribute, help with voter registration, and spread the word. We need active, committed Democrats to help elect this very talented group of Mendon residents. Please join your friends and neighbors as supporters of our efforts.
Regards,
The Mendon Democratic Committee

WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF YOUR TOWN BOARD CANDIDATES?
The Committee, its candidates, and the many supporters of Mendon’s Future are dedicated to promoting the following:
> FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY –
As elected stewards of community funds, we will:
- Persist in addressing budget issues head-on
- Maintain prudent and responsible fund balances
- Continue the search for other sources of funding, to add to the more than $1,000,000 in grants secured by the current administration
- Continue to collaborate with the Village and other municipalities to seek additional ways to save the taxpayer money
- Ensure the Town’s budgeting process be clear, reasonable, and in-line with community priorities
> OPEN GOVERNMENT –
We believe the Town government belongs to you, the citizens of the Town of Mendon. As elected officials it is our duty to:
- Keep you informed about local challenges and decisions
- Continue to seek the input of town residents and involve more of you through improved communications
- Continue to involve residents that are experts in their field
- Support open meetings with published agendas
- Be accessible and accountable, responding to inquiries thoughtfully and respectfully
> QUALITY OF LIFE –
As your representatives, we are committed to being pro-active in preserving and protecting our community – its citizens, rural character, environment, and the amenities that drew us here. As such we will:
- Complete the new library by summer, 2011
- Encourage economic growth in our community
- Maintain open space and the rural feel of Mendon through long-range planning
- Develop an expanded program for seniors
- Expand sports, recreational, and cultural opportunities for Mendon’s youth and youth of all ages
DOUGLAS JONES, RUNNING FOR TOWN JUSTICE, STATES:
“I am ethically restrained from making any specific promises or taking a position on any issue. A judge has to keep an open mind to ensure fairness to all appearing before him and cannot prejudge an issue.
I will use my over 30 years of experience as a trial lawyer to ensure that all who have business with the Mendon Town Court are treated fairly, competently and with regard to the law. In my career, I have been an Assistant District Attorney, criminal defense attorney, and a civil litigator representing both plaintiffs and defendants in the State and Federal Courts of New York. My experience has given me an understanding of all aspects of the job”.
Pro-active, inspired leadership –
support Mendon’s Future and help
